Singh & Associates, Inc. (SINGH) is providing professional engineering services for the preparation of contract plans, estimates and specifications for a new lighting system for Wacker Drive from Congress Parkway to Adams Street. The entire project consists of the reconstruction of the upper and lower portions of the roadway and traffic signal modernization.
This two level thoroughfare has a traffic volume of more than 60,000 cars and thousands of pedestrians every day. It was originally constructed in 1926 and is eligible to be named a national landmark. The lower portion of the roadway facilitates parking and major deliveries and refuse pick-up from 57 high-rise buildings. The upper level helps to ease congestion in the central business district by distributing traffic. The overall project goals include rebuilding and restoring the entire structure; easing the flow of traffic on adjacent streets; and improving access and safety on lower Wacker Drive.
SINGH is providing design services for the new roadway lighting system, electrical engineering, traffic signal modernization for nine intersections and civil and structural design support. The project requires street lighting as well as tunnel lighting. SINGH’s team is coordinating with other consultants to insure that the design and project objectives are met on time and within budget. The improvements to this major artery in the heart of Chicago’s Loop will improve safety and traffic flow. The design will be completed using a state of the art lighting design program.
