This position will provide the opportunity to coordinate a team of engineers on engaging facilities design projects. Based in Chicago, with offices in 3 additional states, our clients include major state transportation agencies, municipal departments, and agencies.
Under the direction of the department manager responsibilities are focused on the design and delivery of a variety of facility design projects. This position will require a self-starter that can independently provide technical guidance to junior engineers. Qualified candidates will have a strong, proven background in facility electrical engineering. The Project Engineer must be able to deliver multiple MEP projects while meeting deadlines and adhering to budgetary constraints. Some regional travel may be required.
Tasks
- Executes required aspects of facilities/building electrical engineering based on a solid understanding of engineering fundamentals and advanced concepts.
- Coordinates a multi-disciplinary team to deliver projects and tasks.
- Coordinates and reviews the work of the project team comprised of MEP engineers, technicians, and subconsultants.
- Assist project manager with technical and management collaboration.
- Collaborate with project manager for project progress and status reports, schedule, and budget.
- Tracks the progress of deliverables, client reviews, technical input, and comment resolution.
- Assist project manager with scope and fee for projects.
Skills + Qualifications
- BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university is mandatory
- 5+ years of electrical design experience
- Professional Engineer License in IL is mandatory with the ability to submit for reciprocity in other states
- Familiar with NEC, general building codes, communication systems, and fire alarm requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Skilled with CAD/Design Software (Civil 3D, AutoCad, Revit)

This position will provide an opportunity to work on a variety of engineering tasks, including roadway lighting design, intelligent transportation systems, and electrical systems for buildings.
Electrical Project Engineer candidate must be able to self-perform design services independently with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate will have strong written and oral communication skills, a positive team-oriented attitude, and a desire to grow personally & professionally. This position requires a BS in Electrical Engineering and knowledge related to technical areas: voltage drop calculations, photometric calculations, and general power design. Familiarity with national electrical code, general building codes and working/construction documents is preferred.
The Electrical Project Engineer position will allow for learning professional and business aspects of electrical engineering. You will be part of a team of engineers working on a wide variety of projects, including opportunities to visit the field to gather information for design as well as construction administration. - Perform engineering design tasks for electrical projects from preliminary to final design
- Performs power + lighting design calculations
- Develop specifications, cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages
- Assist in design activities and meetings between staff, subconsultants, and client

- Participates in field data collection
- Assist with lighting assessment, including field inspections
- Participates in construction observation and documentation of project sites
- Provide construction support including shop drawing reviews, RFI’s, construction site inspection, etc.

Skills + Qualifications
- BS Degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited) is required
- Illinois Professional Engineer License is preferred
- Knowledge of Bentley Projectwise and Microstation CADD/Design Software is required
- Proficient in Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
- Previous experience with IL Tollway (ISTHA) and Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) lighting projects is preferred
- Knowledge of roadway lighting design, industry standards, materials, and installation
- Experience performing roadway lighting calculations using AGi32 software

What does the job really look like?
- Staying current with all relevant employment laws, regulatory agencies, and industry trends (as needed) to provide guidance to management team
